In this project we had to break apart a simple machine and diagram it using conceptual sketches. Once we leaned the basics we got into our groups and chose one simple machine to research and redesign. I broke apart a rotating starry light, and it was very interesting to see how it worked. As a group we broke apart a desk fan and redesigned it to light up while the fan was on.
Concepts
Engineer:
A person who designs, builds, or maintains engines, machines, or public works
Conceptual sketch:
Free hand sketches that are a quick way of exploring initial design ideas
Exploded view:
It shows the relationship or order of assembly of various parts
Research/Data Analysis:
Applying statistical and/or logical techniques to describe and evaluate data
Materials:
The stuff that is used to make other objects
Motion:
When the position of an object moves from one place to another
Energy:
The strength required to make an object do something
Engineering Ethics:
The field of system of moral principles that apply to the practice of engineering
Reverse engineering:
A strategy used to find answers to questions about an existing product that are used in the design of another product.
Invention:
Design work that results in something unique or novel
Innovation:
Process of improving or modifying an existing product

Project Report
Power Point
Reflection
One peak in this project was we collaborated well with each other and we were able to bounce our ideas off each other to form a well thought through plan and project. Another peak for this project was how well the gantt chart worked for our group. There was no question of what needed to get done because we were able to see what we still needed to accomplish.
One pit in this project was not everyone pulled their weight. Even though we had the gantt chart to show us what we needed to do, everyone did not do the same amount of work causing a strain on the group dynamic at times. another pit in this project was we had poor communication with each other. We would always wait for the next time we met to discuss the problems with our project which meant there was less time to work on the project in class. We could have avoided this by talking with each other outside of class time.
